1. Publication of Composition and Choreography of Rabam Chiang Ngam

The composition and choreography of Rabam Chiang Ngam curated by Associate Professor Dr Pornprapit Phoasavadi debuted on 18 December 2020 at the opening ceremony of the Night Museum of Natural History Museum of Nan, in collaboration with Satri Si Nan School.

2. The Story of Princess Phalalert Laksanawalai: A Musical—An arrangement for organ and vocal

The Story of Princess Phalalert Laksanawalai: A Musical. An arrangement for organ and vocal by Dr Sanchai Euasilpa and Associate Professor Dr Pornprapit Phoasavadi was performed on 4th October 2020 at Songdhammakalyani Monestery, to promote social awareness and virtues. The performance of this musical is part of Dr Sanchai Euasilpa’s dissertation, who is one of the doctoral student researchers under the Center of Excellence.

3. Music arrangement of the song “tab yen yam ok si phasa ตับเย็นย่ำออกสี่ภาษา”

The musical piece “tab yen yam ok si phasa ตับเย็นย่ำออกสี่ภาษา” is an arrangement done by Associate Professor Dr Pattara Komkam. The arrangement was performed at a public seminar “The Seminar on Chapey: A Thai-Cambodian Cultural Bridge” in Srisaket province on 8 November 2020.

4. New music composition “Homrong karavet yai ook phleng vivek veha โหมโรงการะเวกใหญ่ ออกเพลงวิเวกเวหา”

The composition “Homrong karavet yai ook phleng vivek veha” by Associate Professor Dr Pattara Komkam was performed at the Thai Music Wai Khru ceremony at Ratwinit Bangkaeo School on 23 December 2020.

5. Melodic arrangement of “Rabam Wiramanggala ระบำวิฬาร์มังคละ”

The melodic arrangement of “Rabam Wiramanggala” by Associate Professor Dr Pattara Komkam was performed at the Skeleton’s Secret exhibition, organized by the Office of Arts & Culture, Chulalongkorn University on 18 December 2020.

The melodic arrangement of “Rabam Mayamkhok” by Associate Professor Dr Pattara Komkam was performed at the Skeleton’s Secret exhibition, organized by the Office of Arts & Culture, Chulalongkorn University on 18 December 2020.

7. Contrafact solo piece for Khong Wong Lek: Sarathee Samchan

The contrafact solo piece for Khong Wong Lek: Sarathee Samchan by Associate Professor Dr Pattara Komkam was performed at the Skeleton’s Secret exhibition, organized by the Office of Arts & Culture, Chulalongkorn University on 18 December 2020.

National Events

1. Seminar on Chapey: A Thai-Cambodian Cultural Bridge

The Seminar on Chapey: A Thai-Cambodian Cultural Bridge at Sri Sa-at School, Sisaket province on 8 November 2020 from 18:00-20:30 hrs, was organized by the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with the Center of Excellence for Thai Music and Culture Research (Associate Professor Dr Pornprapit Phoasavadi) and Sisaket Rajabhat University. A total of 178 participants attended the seminar, 7,700 views of the seminar recording and 1.9K profile likes at social media platforms.

2. Seminar on Thai Music: Gamelan: Nine Decades of a Musical Band from the Royal Court of Java to the Kingdom of Siam

The seminar was a collaboration with the Faculty of Fine Arts, Srinakharinwiroj University and the Embassy of Indonesia in Thailand on December 18, 2019 at Chulalongkorn University. Moderated by Associate Professor Dr. Pornprapit Phoasavadi the seminar explored the history of Thai music composed during the reign of King Rama V and its performance in Indonesia through the court culture of Gamelan music.  

3. Concerts featuring new composition—”Ethnic Colourful”

Composed by Associate Professor Dr. Pattara Komkam, the piece was performed three times. First, it was presented at the 164th Sangkeet Saranrom event organised by the Musical Art Center of Bangkok Bank at Kukrit Institute on 3rd August 2019. The second performance was at the 2nd ASEAN Art Integration Exhibition, at the ASEAN University Network on Culture and the Arts (AUN-CA) in Laos on 13–18 October 2019. The third performance was presented at the Office of Arts and Culture at Prince of Songkla University, Songkla Province, on 18–21 January 2020 with the cooperation of students from the ASEAN university network, AUN-AYCF (Chulalongkorn University, Mahidol University, Burapha University, Chiang Mai University, and Prince of Songkla University). The event was led by Associate Professor Dr. Pattara Komkam, Head of the Department of Music and a committee member of the Center as well as the president of the network group.

International Events

1. New composition “Ethnic Colorful” featured internationally

“Ethnic Colorful” composed by Associate Professor Dr. Pattara Komkam was one of the performances featured at the 17th ASEAN and 7th ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum at Lao People’s Democratic Republic on 13–18 October 2019.

2. Concert—The Pursuit of Imagined Sounds: Thai String Ensemble & Guitar

Artist-in-Residence Dr John Garzoli held a concert at the Faculty Recital Hall on Friday, 24th January, 2020 as part of his research and work with the Center of Excellence for Thai Music and Culture at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. He was joined by distinguished faculty members Associate Professor Pakorn Rodchangpheun, Mr Wirad Songcroh (both saw duang), Dr Dusadee Swangviboonpong and Mr Tharanat Hin-on (both saw u), Mr Jaran Kanchanapradit (khlui) from Khon Kaen University, Associate Professor Dr Kovit Kantasiri (violin), Associate Professor Dr Pornprapit Phoasavadi (pump organ), Mr Sompob Peungpreeda (piano) and Mr Jane Chaleoykai (double bass).

The programme included the Kwan Maung Overture, composed by Pra Pradithpairoh, a guitar solo arrangement of the tune Nok Kamin, written by National Artist Master Sanoh Laungsoonthorn, who also attended the recital, a medley of 1950-1980 Thai pop hit tunes that were all derived from the classical music repertoire and a Thai classical song Yo Yos Phra Loh, sung in a Laotian style. Chaiyathat Sophrakhan, Praewravee Aroonthada and Thitinan Wattanakasiwich were the vocalists.

The concert was enthusiastically received by the audience, which included noted musicians as well as Professor Dr Suthipun Jitpimolmard, Director of the Thailand Research Fund. 

3. The 3rd Indonesian Performing Arts Festival

In collaboration with the Embassy of The Republic of Indonesia in Bangkok, the festival was held on the 18th November 2019 at the Art and Culture Building, Chulalongkorn University. The festival featured five performances including local groups and national artists from Indonesia. A new dance piece was commissioned as joint creative project suggested by Associate Professor Dr. Pornprapit Phaosavadi; the dance was choreographed by Assistant Professor Rawiwan Wanwichai, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Srinakharinwirot University. A dance piece was composed by Associate Professor Pakorn Rodchangpheun—Rabam Gong Mai, a new gong dance which combined the musical instruments of a Gamelan ensemble with those of a Pi Part ensemble. Costumes were designed by Assistant Professor Dr. Kittikorn Nop-udomphan, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Srinakharinwirot University.

4. The 18th International Thai Culture Camp 2020

The 18th International Thai Culture Camp 2020 was organized on 17 – 18 January 2020 with  participants from Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, Korean and Indonesian. 85 participants gathered at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University to attend Professor Dr. Bussakorn Binson and Associate Professor Dr. Pornprapit Phaosavadi’s lectures and workshops Thai music, dance and language with participatory activities.
